20 Days To A Better Business

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit.”

– Aristotle

Growing your business is like going to the gym. You don’t get results overnight.  Instead you get results by taking regular and consistent action which takes your business forward.

This series of articles,  will give you 20 ideas which will show you how to grow and improve your business over 20 days. Some of the ideas you may be able to implement quickly and others may take a little longer.

Day 1: Block out time

Scheduling time to actually spend working on your business rather than in it, is one of the most effective things you can do to grow your business.

Day 2: Book a holiday

As Barbara Corcoran from Shark Tank says, some of her best business ideas have come whilst on holiday. Taking a break recharges the batteries and frees your mind to think of other things.

Day 3: Don’t Check Email first thing

Checking email first thing is a sure way to ruin your day.

Day 4: Start Tax Planning now

Effective tax planning strategies will help legally minimise the amount of tax you pay and the amount you keep.  The earlier you start tax planning the better.

Day 5: Become an Investor

Look at your business the same way an investor would examine an investment in  a major corporation.

Day 6: Where does your money go?

Once you understand where your money goes and your sources of income you’re in good shape for reducing your costs or increasing your income.

Day 7: Create a to stop list

To grow your business you might need to stop doing some of the things that you did when you started out.

Day 8: Who are your biggest clients?

Do you know which clients make you the most money? It might not be who you think it is.

Day 9: Workout

Regular exercise is not only good for your health, but the endorphines that it releases allows you increase focus and clarity in your decision making.

Day 10:  Ship on time

Perfect is the enemy of good enough.  Always keep your promises and ship as soon as possible. You don’t get paid until you ship.

Day 11: Increase your rate per hour

In this article you’ll learn practical ways to increase your hourly rate.

Day 12: Say thank you

Saying thank you is an often overlooked marketing tactic.

Day 13: Fire bad customers

Once you know who your best customers are you’ll also learn who your worst customers are. So getting rid of them will allow you to spend more time on your best customers.

Day 14: Hold a pre mortem

Most businesses hold a post mortem when a project has gone live. But a pre mortem is held before hand.  Identifying what might go wrong could save you a bucket load of cash and make for very happy customers.

Day 15: Build your team

No successful business owner gets to be successful by doing everything themselves.  They do it by building a team.

Day 16: Do more by doing less

Instead of focussing on a 101 different things try just focusing on one.

Day 17: Turn costs into revenue

Every business generates waste.  Can this waste be a revenue stream?

Day 18: Focus on results, not on time

Focus your efforts on what generates the biggest results.

Day 19: Know what you don’t know

Know your limitations. Don’t think you can do everything. The quicker you realise what you don’t know or what other people can do better than you, the quicker you’ll get results.

Day 20: Be consistent

Growing your business is about doing small things on a consistent basis. Create a routine for success.
