What’s the most important aspect of your business? – guest post by Billy Craig
Your health. Without it you can’t work effectively. A golfer may spend many hours striking the ball or buying better clubs, but yet get minimal improvement.
The same goes for business. You may work longer hours or invest in new technology, but without your health how will you steer everything and work effectively?
Pretty much every business person I see is chronically stressed to the point of stage 3 adrenal exhaustion. The signs are obvious to me but most people often attribute it to age or genetics.
Excess cortisol (The stress hormone), graying hair, abdominal fat deposits, despite not over eating. Use of coffee or tea (I know you’ll say you have it because you enjoy it, but I bet you can’t function without it).
I understand that in a recession, you have work harder and make sacrifices.
Do not make the mistake that you can sacrifice your health. I train all my patients/clients as athletes (cooperate athletes), if your job’s a premier league footballer, NFL quarterback or a business manager you need to be at your best physically, mentally and emotionally.
The only way this will happen is by eating, drinking and moving healthily.
Here are a few health tips to get you started;
1. Exercise
helps you get a better night’s sleep and sleep helps you concentrate. I make my client train smarter rather than harder. Working longer hours won’t get you better results, your performance will drop. If you aren’t getting enough sleep, you could be missing a lot of opportunities to be more effective. If you can’t make it to the pool or gym, start by taking the stairs at your office or walking somewhere whenever possible.
2. Avoid caffeine
Any athlete will tell you – caffeine dehydrates you and gives you energy in spikes. Eventually, you’ll come down again and will need more. For a steady stream of energy, try eating for your metabolic type to avoid energy spikes
3. Take time to stretch.
Working at computer makes you hunch over. This hunched position prevents your lungs from breathing at full capacity, which means you have less energy. Any position that essential stretches your pectorals and engages the muscles between your shoulder blades will help.
4. Skip the coca cola
And get water. Honestly, water, high fructose corn syrup, a little bit of flavor, colour and caffeine isn’t helping one bit. And if it’s a diet drink, it’s full of a chemical which may be pretty dangerous .
Our ancestors couldn’t get hold of sugar and fat, so your taste buds are rewarded to encourage its consumption.
Guess what? You don’t work as hard as your ancestors did, and fat and sugar aren’t as rare for you. Avoiding over consumption will mean you keep that athletic shape.
Be well and when you’re a multi millionaire stop by my clinic and I’ll make you a deal ☺
