Wednesday Wisdom
Over the last couple of weeks I’ve posted two book reviews; a book review of Robert Kiyosaki’s Rich Dad Poor Dad and also a review of Ramit Sethi’s I Will Teach You To Be Rich.
This week, I’m sharing with you some useful articles from some excellent personal finance blogs which I have recently discovered and reflect what we’ve covered so far in March is Money Month
First up is from Ramit’s blog : I will teach you to be rich which is a great mindset article which although focuses on why Artists Don’t Make Money, it’s equally applicable to bloggers or charities. It focuses on a story of two artists. One artists struggles on to earn $3 to paint a small canvas whilst a sculptor brings in between $30-50k per item!
Next up is Ryan from Planting Dollars who has written a post on whether driving a BMW is worth 2 years of your life (based on a secretary earning $25k and driving a $58k car ) He introduces the concept of paying no more than 10% of your annual income on a car.
JD Roth writing in Get Rich Slowly features 9 methods for mastering your money which covers a number of the items we’ve covered over the last few weeks including the importance of tracking all your expenditure. (You are following Monday’s task – where does it all go? aren’t you – if you’re not this is a useful reminder to get started.
Now we know a lot of our readers like to travel which is why I’ve included the excellent post by Adam Baker on Man vs Debt called 42 things to radically improve your financial performance. Many of which are instantly could be apply-able to your situation.
And finally I include the post of regular commentor here at Bigredtomatocompany from Karen Ruby at ameaningfulexistence.com explaining the importance of having an emergency fund and encouraging you to start one to cover any unexpected expenses.
So, what do you think?

Some interesting posts! I love the point that Ryan makes. So often we focus on keeping up an image of ourselves that we stop ourselves from actually living.

I thought Ryan’s post was excellent too Tom. So often we spend our money on maintaining an image that we can’t afford to do anything afterwards.
Really appreciate your comment, thanks Tom!

Matthew,
It looks like I’ve got some catching up to do; there’s only Karen’s article I’ve read from your list. My finances do need addressing so I’d better get reading. Thanks for the homework!
Regards
Paul

Paul, sadly there’s too much great stuff on the internet and you can’t always keep on top of it. That’s really the focus of doing a month dedicated to a single area as the occasional posts were just that and people didn’t really take action. Hopefully this month will promote some change for people especially those in the UK about to end the tax year. Maybe this boost will help the new year resolutions along and also start the new financial year off to a great start.
Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment.

Thanks for including my article in this week’s Wednesday’s Wisdom.
I read the the blogs you mentioned (except for Planting Dollars which is a new one to me) and another great finance blog that your readers may enjoy is http://www.thesimpledollar.com Trent has some great advice about saving money while still enjoying family life.
Thanks again,
Karen

Hi Matthew,
Looks like some great resources! I have one or two of my own. The world of finance according to Jeffrey! Don’t borrow money! Cut the banks out of your life! They don’t have anything you need, except maybe a checking account.

Hi Jeff, thanks for sharing! Some sound advice. I’d also add never pay fees for anything, unless the fees are more than covered by the value of benefits you get. Thanks for stopping by.

That’s a good list Matthew. I like the way you introduced each link with a short explanation of what each is about, so much better than just saying visit these links that I like. At least now I have a rough idea of the ones I’m interested in.
