Wednesday Wisdom
Today’s Wednesday Wisdom is the fourth book review I’ve covered in March is Money Month. You can check the others here.
This is an unusual post because not only is it a book that I’ve found significant inspiration in, it’s also a book I sell as an ebook. (more of that later)
Think and Grow Rich was written in a different time, over a period of 25 years during the Great Depression (although what’s great about a depression I have no idea). But that’s not important.
The reason why it’s not important is because Napoleon Hill worked with 500 of the most powerful and rich in America. From Henry Ford to Theodore Roosevelt. The book was commissioned by Andrew Carnegie (the steel magnate and great philantropist) to discover the very essence of what made wealthy people so successful.
Obviously from a history point of view you learn the origins of some of the biggest businesses in the world (eg Ford, US Steel, GE), which is interesting in itself. But, the biggest benefit is that Napoleon identifies the key attributes of how they got there and distills those into 13 lessons.
The good news is everyone has the skills to become rich or succesful. But it’s how you apply those skills (or simply understanding what holds you back) that makes it such a useful book.
I know some people read this book every year, to both inspire and keep them motivated towards their goals.
Within the 13 lessons he reveals the lessons of success and how you can apply them.
For example, Napoleon tells the story of two pioners who had been digging for gold when finally they struck a some gold ore. After raising money to buy the mining equipment, no more finds were discovered and they gave up and sold the site and equipment to a “junk man”.
After consulting an engineer, the “junk man” realised that the pionners were not familiar with fault lines and gold would be found within 3ft of where the pionneers had been digging. Within a few days he’d struck big and over time took millions of dollars in ore from the mine because he knew to seek expert counsel before giving up.
If you’d like to buy the ebook it’s $7 you can go right ahead and click the image in the sidebar or click this link. If you want a physical book, you can get one from Amazon below.
I’ve talked about this book a fair bit over the last few months and it was suggested to me to write a workbook, based on Think and Grow Rich and my experiences, which I’m in the middle of right now.

That’s a very clever bit of marketing Matthew. I’m impressed
I already have too many books on half (including a couple recommended by your good self) so I’ll pass on the ebook for now. However, I’m sure lots of other folk will make time for it so I’m tweeting now.

That’s a tempting offer… your posts reminds me of how I was on the balcony a little bit ago, enjoying the sun with my cat and thinking, ‘Sure, you haven’t made good money online yet, but at least you know you don’t want to spend your whole life working 9-5. You’re actually testing things.” I felt a lot better.
Your post just reminded me of that

Thank you for your comments Moon. You’re right. You need to now structure your goals into actions which stop you having to work 9 to 5.
