Wednesday Wisdom

Welcome to Wednesday Wisdom where this week we share with you 6 tips from around the blogosphere to grow your business.

If you’d like to read the articles from our previous Wednesday Wisdom posts you can do so by clicking the link.

Here’s what we’ve found this week, so sit back and grab a coffee:

This year sees a number of tech changes which will mean that you have to be even more careful about how you craft your email communications with your audience and potential customers. Joe Soltis shares some great thoughts in Email Marketing Is Changing – Don’t Get Left Behind  with some actionable advice which will improve your opens and click through rates in 2011.  You really must check that out. Incidentally, if you don’t currently have a provider for your email then you should take a look at Aweber  (it’s the system we use to power our newsletters), right now they are offering $1 for the first month. Well worth checking out.

Right, well I’ll be the first to admit it, I’d never heard of Social Graphs before I read What Your Business Needs to Know About Social Graphs by Jeff Korhan on the Social Media Examiner – it’s basically how Facebook intends you to connect all your social media interactions via Facebook.  Please put your comments about what you think to all of this as I’m really interested to know your thoughts and the implications for your business.

If you have a web based business, chances are that you store a lot of your important files on your desktop/laptop so you need to start thinking about the Importance of Data Backup for Online Business Owners - whilst I think a lot of business owners are probably aware that they need to have backups but perhaps don’t do anything about it, you need to also give thought to having disaster recovery plan in case your website gets hacked, you have your laptop stolen or one of your major suppliers goes bust. (Also covered in the same article).     As a bonus article, Steve Scott from SteveScottsite talks about moving your office to the cloud

If you’re faced with the problem of not being able to sell enough of your stuff to your customers because they can’t afford it, you need to find yourself wealthier Customers. Ali from Startup Nation shares  four basic techniques to attract  affluent customers: 4 Techniques to Attract Affluent Clients

If you’re familiar with Tim Ferriss’ 4 Hour Work Week you’ll be familiar with Tim’s challenge to the Undergraduates at Princeton University where he offered them the opportunity of a round the world plane ticket if they could establish contact with an ‘A List’ celebrity. Tim’s notion is that 99% of people can’t achieve extraordinary things in life, which means that big goals can be surprisingly easily achieved by the 1% who think they can.  Jacob from Sensophy.com proved this by accepting a challenge to hook up with Garry Vaynerchuk and attend a Jets Game with him.  Here in Jacob’s post How Tim Ferriss took me to Jets Game with Gary Vaynerchuk   he explains how he he did it and  achieved an extraordinary thing.

So that’s what I’ve found this week that I’ve taken inspiration from. But what about you? What have you found this week to help grow your business? Please let me know in the comments section below.

    Hey Matthew,

Thanks for the Wednesday recommendations (is it mid-week already?). Those look like some good resources for business owners. I’m adding them to my very long reading list for today :)

Hi Eduard, I can’t believe it’s Wednesday either! Time flies, which is annoying as it means there’s less time to work on this year’s goals!!!
