A Response to “So What’s Your Problem?”

In February we posted a question. We asked our readers what business problem they were facing (so what’s your problem). Ben Lumley, writer at 6aliens.com , rose to the challenge and shared his problem in deciding what route to take in so what’s your problem (part 2). Thanks to some really great advice, Ben found a way forward and so Ben has asked to respond to all the advice he received.
Over to you Ben:
I thought after the responses I got to Matthew posting my problems up recently that I’d take the time to respond.
Firstly I’d like to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. The past few weeks have been very frustrating for me as I’ve wrestled with which path to take. Your comments, suggestions, support and advice have been overwhelming. Thank you everyone who has taken the time to offer help and also to Matthew for allowing me to share my dilemma here on bigredtomatocompany.co.uk
I thought I’d take some time to share with you all my new direction in light of your input.
I’ve decided to follow my heart and write my book. This is the one out of the three projects that stirs my souls and gets me excited. The main reason for starting these ideas was originally financial. Now after some thinking, I feel that even though the blogging service would have generate money, that the long time potential of a great book about realising your dreams is much greater both financially and for my own personal development.
I feel confident that I have enough content inside of me for a book and a following 6 week course. This is where my heart is right now.
From a productivity perspective, I’m setting down a schedule to write a chapter every 2 weeks. This will allow me time to work on each section of the book in my own time but not give me too much to do in a very short space in time. I believe Parkinson’s Law works, but not particularly well for me.
The first version of the book is initially aimed at young people between the ages of 16 and 23 so it’s not going to be a 4000 odyssey. I have plans also for an audio and video version to allow young people who don’t like to read access the content. Subsequent versions of the book will be aimed at adults and or specific groups of society.
You’re help and support have been amazing. You’ve ALL really helped me to clear my focus and given me a direction in which to head.
Thank you.

Well my friend as you know, I am now on my third book, two in the next month will be published. I feel in my heart these two will be bigger and better than the first. And for that I am grateful I did it. It’s not really about the money for me just the fact that I accomplished a great thing. Good luck and I am here if you need help with that….

Great idea to follow up and let us know where you’re headed next. I like
It might not always feel like it but I suspect you’re in a fortunate position with your job. Whilst nothing is perfect if it isn’t your dream, what you are doing with work will almost certainly give an edge and perspective to your book. It’ll be hard work but at least you’ll be able to keep food on your families table whilst pursuing your dream at the same time.
Good luck
