Avoid the Winter Blues: Free stuff and inspiration sources

Depending on what website you read, today could be Blue Monday. The day dubbed by psychologists as the most depressing day of the year.  Or, it could have been last Monday depending on press reports, because in most parts of the world, Monday 3rd January was a public holiday. Nevertheless a feel good day does no one any harm.

But according to BlueMonday.Org today is the day:

Blue Monday is worked out using a formula which takes into account six factors: weather, debt, time since Christmas, time since failing our New Year’s resolutions, low motivational levels and the feeling of a need to take action. Although the actual ‘science’ behind this is open to question.

So, if you’re feeling a bit blue, then this is the post for you

Free Stuff

In  order to cheer things up a bit, The Big Red Tomato Company  would like to give away some business books to help pass the long winter nights.   These books will be book selected from our bookshelves and will be sent to your address at our expense.

Head over to our Facebook Page and explain why you could benefit from a free book and we’ll choose a winner for the most deserving story.

Sources of Inspiration

I had a chat with my blogging friends and encouraged them to write about Blue Monday and provide some inspiration to make your day go more smoothly. So, if you’re in search of inspiration go and check out:

    Hi Matthew

The stats guys can prove anything can’t they lol Wonder what day they call it for those of us in the southern hemisphere with bright sunshine and blue skies :-)

Great that you are doing your bit to cheer everyone up. And blue is my favourite colour so like your graphics ;-)

Good point Patricia. Blue Monday is a prime example of the Northern Hemisphere thinking only of itself. :)

Well to be fair, if you’re in Victoria or Queensland in Oz, it’s not been great for those guys just recently either! Here’s hoping that their flooding ends soon before more lives are lost and communities ruined.

Perhaps the only place having nice weather is PERTH!!!

Thanks for instigating the Blue Monday smiley posts. I must be honest and say that it wasn’t really a step from the norm for me to write something aimed at helping people lift the corners of their mouths but I did have a lot of fun with this one all the same. ;)

Heading over to your FB page now to see what fun I can find.

    Have a fab day,

Good luck El, I’ve got quite a few books on my shelves at the moment!

To echo El, thanks for setting the Blue Monday idea in motion and for inpiring the spreading of some ‘blue’ banishing ideas around the blogosphere.

Funny thing, yesterday I got sacked and I didn’t know it until I got home. I was surprised, shocked, confused if I’d be happy or not but I chose to be happy instead. Today, as I mull over it, I’m feeling sad. But it’s actually what I’ve been wanting–to have more time working in my pyjama.

Hi Anne, sorry to hear your news. Maybe this will be a start of a great opportunity for you?

I had never heard of the Blue Monday thing. It makes some good sense. Despite the southern hemisphere issue. I wasn’t depressed yesterday though, just swamped. I think I will be depressed tomorrow if it dumps snow on us AGAIN as the news says it will. I have had enough of shoveling snow!!

Hi Steve, thanks for the comment. I think I heard about it for the first time last year. I think in what is generally (at least in the Northern Hemishere) the most depressing month of the year, it’s good to extend a bit of cheer and something to look forward to. For many people holidays are a long way off.
