Wednesday Wisdom

Welcome to this weeks’ Wednesday Wisdom. This is where we share with you great content from around the web which will help you grow your business. This is the post that will help you sort the wheat from the chaff by sharing with you stuff you can action right now.

So, sit back, grab a coffee and get ready to grow your business, but most of all take action.

Traffic Generation

  1. The lifeblood of any business is traffic. Without customers you won’t have a business for very long. First post for inclusion today is Corbett Barr’s excellent site, Think Traffic where his readers shared The Ten Most Effective Things You Can Do To Build Traffic. Well worth a read to see if there’s anything that you can implement.
  2. You’re probably no doubt aware that video is an increasingly popular medium and consequently video link backs to you site count as ‘high quality’ traffic from the likes of Google. Ana Hoffman over at Traffic Generation Cafe shared some great tips on how to Turn Your Existing Articles in to Videos and Podcasts – quickly and easily.
  3. If you visit a lot of blogs you can’t fail to have noticed that for a week in October a significant number of the World’s Blogging Community descended on Las Vegas for Blog World 2010. (If you want to see what it’s like check Chris Duckers’ montage video of his trip to Blog World. Ali Hale (now Ali Luke since she got married) was also in Vegas! Ali shared some great tips in her  7 Blogging and Writing Lessons From Blog World
  4. An older post from the beginning of the year, but I’ve only just come across it. So chances are, you’ve not seen it either. Small Biz Trends features Top Web Design Trends for Small Business in 2010

Making Money Online

  1. A long time favourite website of the Big Red Tomato Company is Steve Scott from Steve Scott Site. Steve shared some really useful tips on how you can run a minimalist business and shares his secrets to producing content and the use of Virtual Assistants.
  2. If you’re using Virtual Assistants then check out Ramit Sethi’s guest post on The 4 Hour Work Week How to Email Virtual Assistants using Proven Templates – if you’re using VA’s (or any other assistants) this post will show you how to make your communications more clear and avoid any foul ups.
  3. Ebooks. Love them or hate them they are big business.  This week Mashable reported that eBooks are set to break $1bn next year.

Networking

  1. If you are saving up for Blog World next year or you’ve got events coming up in the next few weeks, Nic Widely,  explains  how your time and money will be multiplied if you use an event or conference correctly in  10 Ways to Make Attending Events or Conferences Worthwhile For Your Business

So, that’s what we’ve found this week, but what about you? What’s helped you grow your business?

Dude – if that effin popup appears on me midsentence one more time!!!

can’t you set it to show once a week or something? Doesnt scare me off because I know how awesome you and this blog are, but if I was new to the site….

    Just my ten cents…

Hey Alex, thanks for the comment.

Right, Popup Dom turned to once every 7 days, it was every 3 although I think it appeared more often than that… I have it set to appear at 60 seconds, to give people enough time to read what is before them and then hopefully they’ll have a better idea of whether they want to join the tribe.

But I do take your point, I think it’s tricky. If I blast people when they first arrive they will just close it. hopefully 7 days will fix things.

    Thanks again!

    Hi Matthew,
That’s a pretty good post, I’ll have to admit. To sort through your material you have assembled here I’ve been over here about 30 minutes now.

I’m starting to place more and more links in my posts to expose my readers to more of the Blogosphere, beyond just my content.

I’ve met some new people today Matthew, thanks!

Hey Jefferey, thanks for the comment. You’re lucky you’ve only been on here 30 mins, someone emailed me to say that he’d popped on to read one article and ended up being on the site 1.5 hours!

Hope to see you soon! Matthew

    Hi Matthew,
As always a great set of articles and the Think Traffic one is a great insight into what has worked for many people. What is working for me at the moment is that I have started a blog comment group that is only 3 1/2 weeks old but I have already seen my visits and page views go up by 19-20%
