What’s going on…
It’s opening day. The covers are removed. Welcome to our new look site.
Over the last couple of weeks we’ve had our own virtual hoardings up on the site. Announcing to the world we are in maintenance mode. We’ve had the web ‘builders’ in and they’ve made some changes to the site, which is going to make it better for everyone.
We’ve had a bit of a tidy up/revamp and a redesign and incorporated the feedback from many readers in this redesign – thank you to all who collaborated, emailed and commented. (Especially: Karen, El, Ben, Chris and Adrian)
Firstly, why the change?
As a business owner, it’s important to regularly evaluate your business and make sure that it is achieving the goals that you set out for it. If it’s not then you need to do something about it. Sometimes you need to do more of the same things and less of others. Other things you should stop all together. Similarly, you need to ensure that everything you do reflects the business you’re in. ie. Do the services you offer improve your proposition or reduce it?
I like to think of this as a bit like gardening – sometimes, no matter how much you love the plant, pruning is necessary to have a healthy plant and growth/flowers the following season. It’s exactly the same with your business.
For The Big Red Tomato Company our business is about providing rocket fueled advice to grow your business. Whether the business is offline or an online, or a combination of the two, we specialise in helping companies achieve their goals and targets much more quickly than if they were left to figure it out themselves.
We provide high end tailored advice to solve our clients problems. We don’t have the keys to unlock your internet fortune overnight, nor do we have the secret to getting 100,000 followers on Twitter/Facebook or whatever. So we wanted our website to reflect that.
And so, we have created a ‘hybrid’ site which explains to prospective clients exactly what we do, quickly and easily.
So, what’s been going on?
If you’re a regular reader here, then the first change you’ll notice is that the blog has moved to a page all of it’s own. The blog home page now sits at www.bigredtomatocompany.co.uk/blog.
Our blog is where we share our ideas, review books, test out business models, interview super cool people and feature work by very talented business thinkers. The purpose of the blog is to provide inspiration and advice which can help you get on your way. Of course, if you’re struggling with implementing any ideas, then of course, we’re more than happy to help 🙂
If you were worried that the with the virtual hoardings up, we’d ran out of blog post ideas. Don’t worry. Whilst on holiday last week with the family I brainstormed 75 post ideas which will be more than enough to keep us going for the next quarter!
So, really other than some features being tidied up, the blog is pretty much how you left it, just in a slightly different place…
Now, this is where the bulk of the work (and the budget) has gone. We effectively have created a landing page which for first time users helps explain what we do and points people in the right direction to learn more. Should you be so inclined you can read our case studies or read some of our thinking in our ‘library’. Around 70% of all visitors to the site have never been here before and increasingly we’re asked to do things like speaking events or get involved in joint ventures so this is a good place for people to start, learn more about The Big Red Tomato Company.
I really do feel that it shares more about what we are about as a business and a website.
Just like Oxpeckers, which are little birds which feed off the ticks on a rhino’s skin, our website supports our business and the business model that we have adopted and will help propell us to the next level in achieving our own targets.
You will see that the home page has a number of links to find out more information, now, some of these are currently place holders but new content will be added to the site shortly and will be regularly updated – from business plan templates to cashflow forecasts which you can download with our compliments. The idea is that this will become a great resource to grow your business.
A few months ago I placed an ad on Fiverr.com for some tag lines which I asked the BRT community to vote on . Basically, you hated them. So, I went back to the drawing board and followed some advice from Alex Whalley about reflecting the fun and uniqueness of the Big Red Tomato Company. So, just like tomato sauce compliments your meal, our services compliment your business – making us the ‘sauce’ for solving your business growth problems.
So, is everything finished? No it’s not, work will continue over the coming weeks with a lot of content and resources being planned to be added. So please do keep on checking back.
