Better Blogging (1)
This week I came across quite an insightful article about the long term survival of blogs. Sadly I can’t share it with you as I forgot to bookmark it. However, the point of the article was that blogs that survive in the long term succeed because they are bland. This is because blogs that challenge the status quo often aren’t around for the long term because the owners don’t quite get it to work or fail to monetise it properly and so give up. [Post update: here's the power of re-reading your articles after posting them. I remembered the article was on Brandon Connell's site: Your blog is struggling because]
Convereley, the “me to” bloggers; those selling drugs to enhance your sexual performance or peddle the key to internet riches, survive. This is an interesting viewpoint, I’d be interested in your comments below.
In trying to find the article, I found the following posts which may give you some inspiration in heading through what Seth Godin describes as the ‘Dip’ in Inc Magazine, As a reminder that we don’t have to settle for mediocrity, Seth tells us that we have a choice in On the Road to Mediocrity and it’s up to you to avoid it.
This week on the blog, good friend of BRT, Murray Lunn produced an absolutely awesome guest post The Passive Income Escape Plan: Article Marketing. True, this is shameless promotion, but so it should be, for not only is this our single largest post weighing in at over 3,000 words or pure internet gold, but it’s our most ‘tweeted’ and ‘stumbled’ article – attracting almost 100 tweets for Tweetmeme crashed and a huge number of visitors to BRT. Such was the popularity of this post, Murray turned it into the Only Guide You’ll Ever Need on Guestposting for his own site, which I urge you to check out.
Better Blogging (2)
Darren Rowse of problogger fame, in his article, The 5 C’s of Blogging, describes what he’s learned over the past 6 years. Darren says that these are the things that he is wanting to re-inspire himself to continue to build on as he go3s forward in to the next six or so years of ProBlogger – what do you think?
David Risley, another ‘A’ Lister blogger, features a guest post by Nathan Hangen – who compares his experiences in Afghanistan with blogging in The #1 Fear that Keeps Bloggers from True Success more importantly he describes how to overcome it and fix it.
Special thanks go to Ben Lumley who recommended a post on our Facebook Page by Jamie Tardy on Virtual Business Lifestyle about how not to hire a virtual assistant. Jamie describes the lessons that she learnt when taking on a VA to help grow her business. Read the article and learn from her mistakes.

This week I listened to a great podcast interview on Marren Kate’s site, Escaping the 9 to 5 with Ryan Allis, the founder of iContact. Here he describes going from $0 to $3.3 million a month and how he plans to take his business income to $100m. Best bit? Ryan is 26 and absolutely crushing it. Or, you can download it from iTunes here
Time for another cup of coffee:
And now, for something completely different. Here Matt Harding describes in a little over 5 minutes how he created a tribe of over 25,000 people and had almost 32m views of his YouTube Channel and had his travel funded by sponsors. In case you aren’t familiar with Matt Harding’s videos check here:

Hey Matthew
I did have something vaguely insightful to add to the post from Brandon about why blogs are struggling but it’s been danced out of my head now by another Matt. The funny thing is, as soon as I went over to his site and saw his videos, I knew I’d seen this guy before. Who could see that dance and not remember eh?! So, so cool. Loved it. So apologies for not adding to the conversation but thank you for making me smile.
