There’s many reasons why you don’t achieve your goals, but today I’m just going to focus on of them. Desire.
Many goals we set ourselves are wishes or hopes. How often when you’re setting your goals do you choose a definite goal? Not very often, I suspect.
People who succeed and succeed big, athletes, business people, investors, teachers, doctors, just to name a few, succeed because they want whatever they want to achieve more than anything else.
For many years I have worked with trainee accountants and I’ve come to recognise which ones will pass first time and which ones have to retake or give up. The ones who pass first time, are 100% dedicated and they want it more than anything else, whether that’s due to increased marketability or more money, or even to beat their colleagues, the ones that pass have a reason for doing what they do.
Wishing is not enough, whether you want to pass your exams or work a 4 hour work week, wishing will not bring you towards you goal. but desire with state of mind, that becomes an obsession, then planning definite ways and means to acquiring your goal and backing those plans with persistence which does not recognise failure, will bring riches.
There are 6 steps by which desire can be translated into the achievement of your goal:
1. Fix exactly the amount [insert what you want eg riches] you desire.
2. Decide what you’re going to do in return.
3. Set a definite date when you expect to achieve what you desire.
4. Create a plan as to how you’re going to achieve your plan.
5. Write out a clear statement setting out the above (1-4) points.
6. Read it out aloud and start believing it.
